THE PULPIT & THE PREACHER

THE PULPIT
In the reformed faith, the Pulpit is built magnificent and raised above all platforms making the preacher seen by all... the dignity of the WORD! And the pulpit is built on the right handside of the 'Empty' Cross seen on the Chancel facing the Congregation.

Some keys to note: as preacher, before the Word, there is the Hymn for the Word sung preceding time of the Word. This 'hymn' is a prayer, it is not to be cut/shortened by omitting verses because it is wrong to rush prayers. The Hymn is sung solemnly according to the tune... upon the last verse of the Hymn, the preacher moves to the Pulpit and unanimously the Congregation says AMEN after the last word in the Hymn without any form of prayer by the preacher because the HYMN in itself is a prayer but, if the preacher wants to pray before giving the Word, then just before the last verse of the Hymn, the preacher moves to the Pulpit and after the last word in the Hymn, WITHOUT an AMEN, the preacher says his prayer (because his prayer is a continuation of the prayer embedded in the Hymn, if the Congregation should say AMEN before the preacher prays, then it means that the are two prayers now! one prayer is the order) and before the preacher prays, he does not say LET US PRAY (because the people where already praying via the Hymn) so, he just keys in his prayer without interruptions of AMEN or LET US PRAY and after his prayer, the Congregation says AMEN!

THE CENTRALITY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

The Centrality of the Reformed faith is the Holy Scripture. The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, being part of the Reformed faith, affirms the Lordship of Jesus Christ as over all and upholds without compromise the dignity of the Word of God. In the entirety of the practice of the Presbyterian Church, this truth is revealed viz: the Order of Service, the Admission of members, re-affirmation of faith, observation of the Sacraments, leadership/ government to mention but a few.

ORDER OF SERVICE
Presbyterian in different countries have different forms of ORDER OF SERVICE but all of it proceeds uniquely in that the WORD of God is central. This is evidence as practice for instance in Nigeria, the order is:

APPROACH:
Here, the people called to worship, approaches the Word by processing with the Word into the place of worship...
THE WORD:
Having reached the place of the Word -Pulpit, the people hear the Word...
RESPONSE:
Finally, the people after hearing the Word, response to the Word by re-affirming their faith in the Word and recessing from the Service with the Word to spread the goodnews of the Word and to approach the Service with the Word again in another predetermined service...

ADMISSION OF MEMBERS:
To be a member of the Presbyterian Church, you must undergo series of classes wherein you would be taught the teachings of Christ and the practice of the Church...

LEADERSHIP:
To lead at any capacity in the Presbyterian Church, you must be one in good standing in the Word and the mood of choosing leaders is based on the provisions of the Scripture: 'casting lot' exercised   in form of 'election' by the people in a presbyterian order....

...just an intro to series of updates that would be reaching us via this medium as we stay connected to learn more of the PRESBYTERIAN FAITH...
